How to set yourself up for your most productive year yet!

The start of a new year is the perfect time to start setting yourself up for the most productive year yet! Why? Because, after the break over the festive season, you’ll be feeling rested, recharged and rejuvenated and ready to start forming some positive habits that you can carry with you throughout the year to make yourself more productive.

1. Reflect.

Firstly, before taking any action, stop and reflect on the year that has been. On the highs, the lows, your favourite moments, achievements, downfalls, etc. This helps give you some perspective of your strengths and weaknesses; what worked and what didn’t; where you can improve or areas you need to focus more on.

2. Plan!

As the saying goes; fail to plan and you’re planning to fail. This new year, make a conscious effort to plan more. Having a plan or outline of your day or certain tasks will relieve so much stress and help you get more done because you have a clear focus and therefore are less likely to get distracted or side tracked. Try taking a few minutes at the end of each day to plan the next day – it can be as simple as 1-2 tasks you want to focus on, or you could go as far out drawing up a schedule for how you plan to spend your time each day. Find what works for you and stick to it! I find planning out my daily schedule on a Justick Mini Whiteboard and keeping this close by my work station keeps me on track to get through my daily to-dos!

3. Always have goals.

Having goals keeps you on track and helps you to know when you have succeeded. They give you positive reinforcement that you are on track and a great sense of achievement when you can say to yourself you have accomplished something you really wanted. So make this year a productive one and start it by setting yourself some concrete goals of things you want to achieve this year. They might be long term goals – like receiving a promotion or saving $X amount for a house deposit – or they could be short term goals – such as trying out a new café in the city. Either way, they are goals and ultimately things you want to achieve, so write them down; reflect on them daily and allow yourself to experience that sense of achievement when you can tick them off as completed!

4. Declutter

No one functions their best or produces their best work in a cluttered environment. Whether it’s the house, home office or work desk, clutter inhibits productivity! So start this New Year off on a positive note and declutter your space! Not only will you instantly feel a sense of relief but I promise you, you will notice a huge difference in your productivity!
